I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Before we jump into the week ahead, I want to clarify a few details regarding our master schedule and share some exciting administrative and event updates for our campus.
First, I want to apologize for any confusion caused by my previous message regarding scheduling. To be completely clear, we are not moving to 4 periods a day. We are keeping our current 5x5, 10-period schedule. Our team will be spending this week working on scheduling adjustments behind the scenes, so it will be business as usual for our students, and they should continue attending their regular daily schedules without interruption. More updates will be provided as we progress through this process.
We also need your help reinforcing an important safety expectation for after-school sporting events. If your student plans to stay on campus for a game, they must remain inside the gym for the entire duration of the event. Student safety is our top priority, and our staff supervision is limited to the event area. Leaving the gym to roam around campus and public areas compromises that safety, which is why students are required to stay in their designated location throughout the game. We are informing students of this policy at school this week as well. We greatly appreciate your partnership in talking through this with your child at home.
In exciting leadership news, we have some administration shifts and a new administrator joining our team. I would like to introduce Mrs. Kendall Omick as our new Academic Dean! She is transitioning into this new role from previously serving as our campus A-L Assistant Principal. Mrs. Omick is an experienced administrator and instructional leader and is ready to help lead our instructional vision. We are also thrilled to welcome Ms. Savanna Wilson as our new Assistant Principal! Ms. Wilson brings 15 years of experience in education—including 12 years as a certified teacher—spanning general education, special education resource classes, and Social Behavior Skills (SBS) support across Title I schools like Winn Elementary, Overton Elementary, and General Marshall Middle School. Ms. Wilson will be supporting our A-L alpha going forward, so please do not hesitate to reach out to her for any assistance if your student falls under her alpha. Please join us in giving both of them a warm welcome to their new roles!
Finally, we have a huge milestone on the horizon: our very first Homecoming will take place from September 23rd to September 29th! We will release our official Spirit Week dress-up days and more event details next week. If you're looking to get involved early, our PTA is hosting a mum-making session tomorrow at 5:30 PM and would love extra volunteer hands!
